Oreo went to a routine vet visit to get his next set of vaccinations. Later on that evening, his breathing became rapid and labored, and his heart beating fast... While thought to be a normal "bad shot reaction" initially - the situation quickly took a turn for the worse. His owners rushed him out to the emergency vet hospital. Breathing difficult, heart rate rapid... they took x rays. They found his lungs filled with fluid, this, from a perfectly healthy pup only hours earlier. They decided to attempt to drain the fluids from the lungs, as there was no other course of action and see what the cause was (via tests on the fluid) so he could be treated with the proper antibiotics.
Then, mid surgery, Little Oreo ceased breathing. His owners were called and the situation layed out. He could be put on a ventilator, but there was only approximately a 30% chance of any good coming from it, and the procedure - extremely costly.
Without hesitation - his owners agreed to have it done. Kim, one of his owners told me that there is a chance, and she had to try. So little Oreo was hooked up to it.
They went to visit him this evening. Hooked up to multiple machines, read outs being taken, and getting round the clock care...
We are hopeful.
If he makes it through the night, and stats look good, the emergency hospital will try and take him off the ventilator to see if he can breath on his own. It is not known if he will be able to or not. They are giving him antibiotic to help his still fluid filled lungs, and will be growing a culture to see what the exact cause of the lung fluid may be, so they can give a course of antibiotics for that.
But his heart is strong.
All of these procedures are going to be quite costly. While Kim had just finalized her pet insurance this week!! we KNOW there will still be ALOT in out of pocket fees.
We would like to help, and We are asking for your help, as well. Kim did not ask us for help, however, we will give it none the less.
Please find it in your heart to donate something to the "Oreo Fund". Every donation counts, whether large or small, we will submit the donations to Kim, as they come in to help her with her veterinarian bills, because seriously, it takes a special person to NOT put a limit on their pet, and when they think of them TRULY as family, and will do any and everything for them.
**UPDATE**2/10
Oreo has successfully made it through the night, but it is not yet known if he can breath on his own. I will update as the news comes in to me.
Update... 2:45 pm 2/10/08
Little Oreo did not make it. His ventilator was taken off, but put right back on as he still could not breath. The oxygen, in the end, had to be increased to 100%. With no more chance, he was humanely euthanized.
Even though little Oreo has passed, the bills will remain. Please find it in your heart to send a little something.
**PLEASE NOTE - OREO'S ORDEAL WAS A RESULT OF AN OVERDOSE OF THE BORTADELLA VACCINE GIVEN BY A VET, WHICH HAS BEEN CONFIRMED VIA LAB TESTING, WHICH LED TO THE ACUTE PNEUMONIA**
Our paypal address is : willowroseshihtzu@hotmail.com or you can use the link located on our deposit page OR send your donation to the vet, or if you prefer, right to Kim, the owner (email me for her addy).
